Thank you Tim. Beautiful thoughts. I am reminded of passage in Bewilderment (R Powers):
There are four good things worth practicing.
Being kind toward everything alive. Staying level and steady. Feeling happy for any creature anywhere that is happy. And remembering that any suffering is also yours.
With all this bad news plus war and politics, it's easy to think that one person cannot make even a minuscule difference. How to convince people that it does? The problem set is the only one that can afford a $6 oyster.
Most certainly, everything is connected. Fair winds to you Tim, enjoy the passage back to land! ~J
If everything is connected everyone can make a difference. So I hope no one gives up. Perhaps the power of example is more effective than trying to convince anyone of anything these days. It’s very true that almost no one can afford $6 oysters, but access to better, and more sustainable food is all about subsidizing the good stuff and taxing the bad stuff. If the price of hamburgers or milk and cheese included their environmental and social costs a lot fewer people would buy them. So how about subsidizing oyster farming instead of dairy farming? Seems crazy, but…
Oysters in particular I totally agree as they are the best filter system on the planet. There is a lot of subsidy in the Chesapeake Bay region to farm them. One local guy just went to WA and brought train cars of shells back for the spat as there is a shortage here. 750,000$ worth. Awesome and recycled rather than discarded.
Always appreciate your POV. Hope it's a great crossing!
